Korngold - it’s pure gold

Erich Wolfgang Korngold was possibly the greatest composer prodigy since Mozart. He wrote the string sextet in 1914 aged 17!!! it’s just a remarkable work, for me one of the greatest pieces for string ensemble of all time. It’s written in typical polychromatic style, but packed with beautiful melodic material and is harmonically rich and challenging.

I recorded the sextet with the Sinfonia of London Chamber Ensemble last year and it’s now out on Chandon. on same disc, the violin concerto, absolutely sensationally played by Andrew Haveron. Please don’t take my word for it and listen for yourself. Cheers to Andrew, Magnus, James, Joel and Pierre (pictured)

I’ll post a Spotify link on the discography page.
