Moondrunk on Schoenberg

No two working weeks are ever quite the same: new colleagues, demanding scores, unfamiliar stages. But every so often, a project comes along that feels especially electric.

In February, I had the privilege of performing Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire with the Royal Ballet and Opera. This extraordinary 1913 work for sextet and voice was later transformed into a ballet by Glen Tetley in 1962.

Across ten sold-out performances in the Linbury Theatre at the Royal Opera House, the music felt as daring and alive as ever. Its impact on Western music is difficult to overstate—it still shapes how we hear and imagine sound.

I’m still moondrunk.
